چکیده

Title of Thesis: POLARIZATION-INSENSITIVE TECHNIQUES FOR OPTICAL SIGNAL PROCESSING Degree candidate: Reza Salem Degree and year: Doctor of Philosophy, 2006 Thesis directed by: Professor Thomas E. Murphy Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering This thesis investigates polarization-insensitive methods for optical signal processing. Two signal processing techniques are studied: clock recovery based on two-photon absorption in silicon and demultiplexing based on cross-phase modulation in highly nonlinear fiber. The clock recovery system is tested at an 80 Gb/s data rate for both back-to-back and transmission experiments. The demultiplexer is tested at a 160 Gb/s data rate in a backto-back experiment. We experimentally demonstrate methods for eliminating polarization dependence in both systems. Our experimental results are confirmed by theoretical and numerical analysis. The Application of SOA in All-optical Wavelength Conversion and ROF System

Wavelength conversion has been suggested as one of the key functions for wavelengthdivision-multiplexing (WDM) optical networks and photonic switch blocks. Several methods, such as a self-phase modulation (SPM), a cross-gain modulation (XGM), and crossphase modulation (XPM), can be used to realize all optical wavelength conversion (AOWC) [1-29]. However, four-wave mixing (FWM) based on nonlinea...

A Full-Duplex, Dual-Polarization 10Gbps Radio over Fiber system with wavelength reuse for upstream signal

This study presents a full-duplex Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) system providing the users' wireless access with a bit rate of 10 Gbps over 40 GHz radio carrier. This system can be used in a centralized radio access network (C-RAN) architecture because we provide a fully analog front haul link between central station and base station. We can consider it as infrastructure between remote radio heads (RR...

Wafer defect detection by polarization insensitive external differential interference contrast module

Received XX Month XXXX; revised XX Month, XXXX; accepted XX Month XXXX; posted XX Month XXXX (Doc. ID XXXXX); published XX Month XXXX Abstract: We present a system, which is based on a new external, polarization-insensitive differential interference contrast (DIC) module, specifically adapted for detecting defects in semiconductor wafers. We obtained defect signal enhancement relative to the s...

Generation of 1.024-Tb/s Nyquist-WDM phase-conjugated twin vector waves by a polarization-insensitive optical parametric amplifier for fiber-nonlinearity-tolerant transmission.

We experimentally demonstrate the generation of 1.024-Tb/s Nyquist-WDM phase-conjugated vector twin waves (PCTWs), consisting of eight 128-Gb/s polarization-division-multiplexed QPSK signals and their idlers, by a broadband polarization-insensitive fiber optic parametric amplifier. This novel all-optical signal processing approach to generate WDM-PCTWs enables a 2-fold reduction in the needed o...
